About Palácio do Correio-Mor

The Palácio do Correio-Mor is an 18th-century Baroque palace in Loures, about fifteen minutes from Lisbon, classified as a Property of Public Interest. It belonged to the Gomes da Matta family, who held the office of correio-mor, Portugal’s chief postmaster, for more than two hundred years.

The palace is built on a U-shaped plan. Inside are azulejos from the Bartolomeu Antunes workshop, painted ceilings with mythological scenes, late 18th-century stucco and a kitchen lined with tiles of game and fish. Outside are French-style boxwood gardens, a lake, woodland and waterfalls.

For weddings, the estate adds a large tent that can host up to 950 guests, so even the biggest celebrations stay together in one place, with the palace and gardens for the ceremony, the cocktail and the portraits.

Filming a wedding at Palácio do Correio-Mor

Correio-Mor is a gift for a film: every room has its own colour, from the pink hall with its chandelier to the blue and white azulejo rooms. We use the palace windows for soft, natural light on the bride and the bridesmaids before the ceremony.

The boxwood garden gives depth to group portraits and wide shots, and the façade at golden hour is one of the most cinematic backdrops near Lisbon. In the evening the party moves to the tent, where we work with the band and lighting team so the dance floor looks as good on film as it feels.

Planning your wedding film at Palácio do Correio-Mor

The palace has two moods: the tiles, ceilings and stucco inside, and the gardens, the lake and the woods outside. The large tent adds a third. Around Lisbon and the Atlantic coast, the sun sets at about 9 pm in June and July, about 8 pm in early September and about 7 pm in early October, so we plan the timeline backwards from sunset.

  • Use the afternoon light for the gardens and the lake, and plan the interior portraits when the sun is strong outside.
  • For tent receptions, share the layout and the band position with us in advance, so we can plan camera and sound.
  • Allow time for portraits inside the palace, where the azulejos and ceilings need patient framing.
  • Ask the venue about its rules for drone footage in the gardens.

Getting there: Palácio do Correio-Mor is about 14 km from Lisbon airport, about 15 minutes by car without traffic.
