Forte da Cruz Wedding Videographer
A 17th-century fort on the water in Estoril, and hundreds of weddings we have filmed inside its walls.

Forte da Cruz stands right on the water at Tamariz, in the heart of Estoril. It was built as part of the coastal defences between Lisbon and Cascais, originally named Forte da Cruz de Santo António d’Assubida, and worked in crossfire with a second fort, now demolished, to protect the beaches from landings.
In 1894 a private family bought the fort from the state, at the time when the royal court spent its summers in Cascais and Estoril, and the same family still owns it. Today it hosts weddings for up to 110 guests inside and up to 500 on its ocean-facing terrace, with views across Cascais bay.
Filming a wedding at Forte da Cruz
By the sea the light moves fast and the wind is part of the day. We plan the portraits around the sun over the bay and keep a second camera on the guests, so nothing of the evening is lost while the couple is outside.
The fort, the beach and the Estoril promenade give a film real variety in a few steps: a walk along the sea wall after the ceremony, a kiss on the sand with the fort behind, then dinner on the terrace as the sun goes down. For larger weddings on the terrace, we plan sound and camera positions with the band and the production team before the day.
Planning your wedding film at Forte da Cruz
The fort looks across Cascais bay, and the terrace faces the ocean. The wind and the light change quickly by the sea, so a flexible timeline works better than a fixed one. Around Lisbon and the Atlantic coast, the sun sets at about 9 pm in June and July, about 8 pm in early September and about 7 pm in early October, so we plan the timeline backwards from sunset.
- Keep the portraits for the hour before sunset, when the light over the bay is at its best.
- Bring a second layer for the couple and the guests: the wind on the terrace can be strong.
- For larger terrace weddings, share the band and production plan with us so we can plan sound and camera positions.
- Confirm with the venue where the ceremony would move if the weather changes.
Getting there: Forte da Cruz is about 30 km from Lisbon airport, about 30 minutes by car without traffic.
